Great Price for

Tripwire (Jack Reacher, No. 3) Review

I read three of Child's offerings, two good, one not so I chose another. Now there are three good, one not very. If I were to do the last one justice, I would give the plot away. So I shall have to do what I can. Most novels need a protagonist and his enemy, the antagonist. Here is where Child excels, he draws a good hero, Jack Reacher and keeps him and selects the antagonists. He is very good at this, you want the hero to win and you want the bad guy to lose. He puffs up the plot and I am forced to follow it relentlessly, knowing the hero will win but wanting to see the enemy get his just deserts. Child makes me hate the bad guy, sometimes i think the conclusion is too mild, I want the bad guy to suffer more. So it was with "Tripwire", the bad guy got away too easily. Another problem here was in the subcharacters, Chester and Marilyn Stone. Sympathy is created for them, then at the end they are dropped without letting the reader know if they reclaim their lives, their business. Also Sheryl, what happens to her? Creative Writing courses say to leave some questions unanswered in the story, this creates discussion amongst the readers, asking one another what happened to so and so, keep the discussion going, get more people involved, sell more books, etc. Then there is the question of Jodi and Hook Hobie. She is small and tiny, and Hook is big and heavy, yet in the confrontation, Jodi is big enough for Hook to hide behind her body, use it as a shield and present a small target impossible to shoot so little is shown. Who believes it? The book is full of items like those two, Another thing is I was able to forecast the action and the characters, was this intentional or not? Here is where I can say little without spoiling the ending, yet the ending was no surprise. Will any other books be so good with so many mistakes and detractions? I can only keep reading and see.

Tripwire (Jack Reacher, No. 3) Overview

Reacher's anonymity in Florida is shattered by an investigator who's come looking for him. But hours after his arrival, the stranger is murdered. Retracing the PI's trail back to New York, Reacher's compelled to find out who was looking for him and why. He never expected the reasons to be so personal-and twisted.

Tripwire (Jack Reacher, No. 3) Specifications

Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is lying low in Key West, digging up swimming pools by hand. He is not at all pleased when a private detective starts asking questions about him. But when the detective, Costello, turns up dead with his fingertips sliced off, Reacher realizes it is time to move on.

As in Lee Child's two previous thrillers, Die Trying and Killing Floor, Reacher is soon up to his neck in lethal trouble, this time involving a vicious Wall Street manipulator, a mysterious woman (of course), and the livelihood of a whole community. Even the fate of soldiers missing in action in Vietnam is stirred into the brew.

But this is not a book by one of the new breed of U.S. thriller writers. Child prides himself on his ability, as an Englishman, to write American thrillers that are utterly convincing in milieu and toughness of action, without a trace of English sensibility. Tripwire is no exception. Every bit as lean and compulsive as its predecessors, it also builds on the freshest aspect of those books: Reacher may be a tough, epic hero, but he always remains human and vulnerable. --Barry Forshaw

Anything written by Lee Child in his Reacher series is fabulous! I'd buy it in a heart beat and recommend it to any and all of my friends and family.

Definitely fits the 'I can't put it down' category. I'm delighted I discovered Lee and Jack.

Worth the read! - Noni -
Tripwire is number three in the Lee Child, Reacher novels. Lee Child is a wonderful author and his Jack Reacher character is smart, quick wit and tougher than any nail made. I recommend this and all the Reacher novels to anyone who loves a good book.
If you like suspense, thriller novels you'll love this one!

One of my favorite Reacher stories - James Lee - Pasadena, CA
This is probably one of my favorite Jack Reacher novels (and is also my 8th book by Lee Child). The story doesn't just evolves around Jack Reacher but also attempts to do deeper character developments for some of the side characters, which made the entire story more complete. The ending finished a bit abruptly, but overall, another fun read by Lee Child.
